If you're already in Texas, why not the rest of the state? You're within an hour of San Antonio where you can see The Alamo and The River Walk which are not to miss. Stop in Luling for the best bbq in the state and then onto my hometown, Houston, for amazing museums and a culinary scene that rivals anywhere in the country including L.A. and NYC. Then up to Dallas if you like, haha. But if not, keep going east to New Orleans for jazz, cajun food, and beignets. If you've gone that far, keeping going to Atlanta for some good soul food and museums. If you've gone that far, might as well continue to Florida for the best beaches. Destin is amazing.
Visiting San Antonio this week! I'll try to stop by Luling but where specifically in Luling for the BBQ? Houston hasn't been recommended to me by the Texans I consulted around here so I don't know about that one .... might stop by Dallas for a week. New Orleans and Atlanta I've already been to. I'm interested in Florida but everyone else I've floated the idea of trying living in Florida to has been like no (aside from Miami, which I've already been to). Are they wrong?
There is only one that I know of, Luling BBQ. I've lived in Austin and Houston and Houston is the better city imo but you do you. Florida's beaches are much better than California's so if you like beaches, yes, otherwise, prolly not. I've never been to Miami.
Ya, Destin is gorgeous and it's one of the first places you'll find as you enter Florida if you're driving from the west. The best part about Florida gulf coast beaches is the water is actually warm enough for you to swim in without a wet suit! My mom is from Dunedin and that's a cute town but beware of Clearwater, the Scientologists have taken it over.
I really like New Haven CT in the summertime
Hopefully I'll be able to drop by this summer!
Have we discussed Portland or Seattle yet?
Love both! But both get too cold to live in permanently.
